A Fresh Outlook: Remodeling Your Windows

Posted May 26, 2017

Are your windows old, inefficient or damaged? Are you looking for something bigger or more attractive for your living room or kitchen? Consider remodeling your windows to make your home more comfortable and inviting. Take a look at what the following types of windows will do for your home.

Small Windows

Small windows are a good choice if you want your house to feel cozy. They will let in less light (especially if they have grids), making a room feel comfortable and private.

Fixed Windows

Fixed windows are panes of glass fixed in one place. They give a home an open feel. If you like open spaces and want to make a room feel light and airy, fixed windows are a good choice. Show off your gardens and landscaping by putting large fixed windows in your home. If you are looking for a combination of private and open and airy, put fixed windows above your seating area. These fixed windows will allow a lot of natural light into a room while giving you privacy.

Sliding Doors and Windows

Like fixed windows, sliding glass doors and windows can make a space feel open. Make a dark entryway brighter with a set of sliding glass doors. Or use a set of sliding windows to make a room brighter and create air flow. Some sliding doors and windows come with grids, making them feel more “country” or “French.”

French Windows

True French windows are any windows having non-removable grids. French windows add great curb appeal to a house, making a modern home look charming. Remember that any gridded window allows less light into a home, making a room feel darker but cozier.

Crank Windows

Crank windows open with a turning handle or crank. These windows are often installed in basements and kitchens where windows are sometimes difficult to reach. In these cases, a crank window is your friend, allowing you to open a window that is behind a deep counter or in a tight corner.

Dormers and Skylights

Dormers and skylights are great solutions for opening up dark, tight spaces in your attic or roof. Many people who are looking to finish an attic but need more wiggle room will add dormers. These can give an attic bedroom light and room as well as add character to the exterior. If you want more light in a room without the loss of privacy, simply add skylights.
