Employee Highlight: Meet Bret Gautier

Where did you grow up and go to school?

My dad was in the navy, so we moved around quite a bit! We lived in California, Rhode Island, Maryland and Virginia. When my dad finished his tour of duty in Vietnam, we settled in Virginia Beach, VA. I graduated from Kempsville High and went on to Virginia Tech.

What other jobs have you had before Bethany Associates?

I worked as an assistant manger for a pizza parlor during high school and college. Over the years I have had a variety of painting and construction jobs with various contractors.

What skills have you learned from previous employment?

I’ve learned basic management skills like troubleshooting, scheduling and closing daily reports. I’ve learned how to interact with customers, as well as acquire lots of hands-on skills including wallpaper hanging, drywall framing, and painting.

How long have you been employed with Bethany Associates?

I have been with Bethany Associates for 19 years.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Some days I am out on the field window cleaning or pressure washing homes and businesses. Most days I am doing administrative work including payroll and HR, as well as assisting the manager in the various needs of the company.

What needs and challenges are you able to meet for people?

I asses the critical needs of our customers and make sure they are satisfied with the service we give them. I also make sure the time our employees work with us is as fulfilling as possible. I get to listen to the variety of concerns from both our customers and employees and work toward a happy solution for everyone.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Seeing the smile on the customer’s face when the job is done. Their satisfaction with a job well-done is very rewarding.

Tell us about your family and what you will do for vacation this year.

Gretchen and I have been married for 20 years. We have three wonderful children: Joshua, Andrew and Aimee. We are planning a big trip to Disney World this year and are really looking forward to the experience
